I don’t know about you, but I did not want to be productive again after Thanksgiving. Like, can we skip these next three weeks until winter break? Please?
The reality, though, is that we can’t. Instead, we just have to keep pushing through until we finish everything left on our plate. How, though, can we be productive when it seems all our motivation is gone? Luckily, I’ve got a few tricks up my sleeve. Keep reading for some strategies I take on when I know I need to up my productivity game.
Get a change of scenery
Seriously, sometimes all it takes to pull yourself out of that rut is a change of scenery. Usually do your work in your house? Try moving to a coffee shop. Can’t focus at your desk? Try moving to your couch. It can often be that easy to help get yourself in the zone; you just have to change things up!
Change up your routine
This feels like such a hard thing to do, especially if you have set hours at work or you’re this far into a school semester. However, changing up your routine may be just what you need to spark new motivation. Usually get stuff done in the evening? Try waking up early to be productive. Usually work through your lunch break? Try actually giving yourself that hour off and see if it helps your focus. You never know what a world of difference a little change can make until you give it a try!
Get some momentum going
If you haven’t read my post about momentum and how it can help you get stuff done, I highly recommend it (read it here). Seriously though, if you have something big you’re struggling to get started on, try getting some momentum going by finishing a smaller task or two first. Not only will it get your brain started, but the sense of accomplishment will help motivate you to tackle bigger stuff!
Got a big long to-do list for the weekend? Promise yourself a reward if you make it through. Pick up your favorite holiday coffee drink, treat yourself to a bubble bath or watch a few episodes of your favorite show. Whatever it is, choose something that you know will motivate you to get everything done (or at least come pretty darn close).
Take a short break
If you’re really just not feeling it, you may be burnt out. Allowing yourself to take a break might make you more productive in the long run. If you can afford it, take a day or two off and see if you’re feeling better. Otherwise, let yourself enjoy an episode or two on Netflix or a night out with friends to keep your spirits up, and hopefully your motivation will return.
Remind yourself why you started
Sometimes, when you feel like giving up, it’s important to remind yourself why you started. Why did you start your blog? Why did you decide to come to college? What made you take your current job? Things may feel awful now, but I promise they’ll get better at some point. In the meantime, you just have to keep your head up and remind yourself why you want to make it through.
If you’ve been feeling really blah lately and you just can’t get anything done, hopefully one or more of these tips will help. If you found this post helpful, don’t forget to give it a share so your friends can read it, too! How are you planning to make it through until the winter holidays? Let me know in the comments below!
